DR A. BORA, PRINCIPAL OF JORHAT ENGINEERING COLLEGE
AS AN INVITED GUEST OF HONOUR IN A FUNCTION OF JECAAA
JEC AUDITORIUM, 21-02-2010


The Principal of Jorhat Engineering College, Dr Atul Bora was invited as a Guest of Honour by the Jorhat Engineering College Alumni Association in the Gold Medal and Financial Award Ceremony held on 21-02-2010 at the College Auditorium. Addressing the distinguished gathering, Dr Bora submitted the following as a road map ahead :

The web page of the college [www.jecassam.in] is under construction with all available physical and intellectual capital of the College and the entire JEC family. All including the JECAA have already been requested to provide a Vision & Mission statement of the College.

Dr Bora submits that Vision & Mission Statements-should reflect o The dream we cherish & about the fundamental purpose of the College respectively o The Vision & Mission would be useful as

An integrating agent of the greater JEC family with a focus

A guiding tool to think in terms of relationships, connectedness, and in the context of sustaining the glory and relevance of alma mater in this fast changing world.

Dr Bora also appealed to all concerned to provide data regarding


College history-the chronology of growth as milestones such as foundation laying, inauguration of the main building, establishment of different hostels etc including ongoing new constructions.

The following milestones of the College were submitted by Dr Bora

JEC came into existence on 7th Jan, 1959 at POW, with taking the charge of the Principal of JEC by HN Barua

October 10, 1960-1st batch admission at Hostel-2

Dr Bora declared that a Core Group has been formed to initiate the process of Golden Jubilee Celebration of the College, with the following broad terms of reference

How to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the College or modalities of celebration

Schedule of Events taking into consideration of academic calendar and activities of the college

How to involve everyone and all stakeholders and particularly the Alumni of JEC

If former students do not turn up it will not be a celebration. Also it will not be a celebration if the former students are not well received or they may feel bad to find their Alma Mater in a bad shape

Dr Bora reiterates the need of creating an Endowment Fund of JEC for receiving donations from its alumni, industry, and well-wishers. Initiative is to be made so that all donations to the Endowment Fund qualify for 100% tax exemption, under section 80G in the model of IIT Kanpur Foundation.


Dr Bora requests participation of entire JEC family in the CAMPUS SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE OF JEC: A COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECT, which was circulated to all concerned in April 2009 with holistic action plan and-

To Promote and Sustain a Cleaner and Greener JEC Campus

To obtain and sustain engagement of all well wishers of JEC such as alumni

To Demonstrate a sustainable waste management option to wider community

Dr Bora concluded expressing confidence and hopes for reviving and sustaining the glory of the College with due cooperation of all concerned and with clear project-mode initiatives, agenda and strategies.
