Jorhat Engineering College was set up by the government of Assam in the year of 1960, for providing an efficient system of education and to cater to the needs to technical manpower in the North-East region of the country. Initiated with the Civil Engineering Department , the college now offers four year under-graduate course in five disciplines. Viz, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering and one three years Post graduate degree course in Computer Application leading to the Master of Computer Application (MAC) degree. Each department of the college has a well equipped laboratory. The well organized Workshop of the college provides exhaustive hands-on -training to the students to get acquainted with the state-of-the-art technology. The college maintains a good relationship with the leading industrial organization of the region by extending consultancy services and through industry-institute interaction programs.
            The college is one of the premier technical colleges recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, Assam
